The theme of the 2018 APARRI meeting in Claremont, California was the “State of the Field.” The two-day conference promoted the distinctive field of Asian Pacific American religious studies by cultivating deeper engagement and encouraging the sharing of ideas. In addition to key speakers and new book sessions, the 2018 conference featured concurrent panel sessions on themes such as “Community and Congregation,” “Religious and Racial Visions,” “The Second Generation,” and “Theology Practice” in order to critically examine the nexus of religion, race, and ethnicity. Furthermore, through mentoring sessions with senior faculty, workshops related to self-care and work-life balance, and affinity group meetings based on similar research and interests, the conference fostered collaborative relationships as well as the professional development of scholars.
